DARonline

Our online data application request (DAR) system.

Select DARonline from the drop down menu under the Researcher Tools tab. You will need a my.popdata account to log in. If you don’t have an account, please visit https://my.popdata.bc.ca/account/register/.

AppTracker

Realtime access to detailed project status information.

AppTracker access is automatically provided for the project’s applicant, coordinator, and team members with SRE access.

Access can be provided for any of the team members on the project. Please have the project coordinator contact the Data Access Unit if you wish to receive access for the projects you are currently involved with.

Select AppTracker from the drop down menu under the Researcher Tools tab. You will need a my.popdata account to log in. If you don’t have an account, please visit https://my.popdata.bc.ca/account/register/.

Metadata Central

Access to file and field level summaries for selected data sets.

  • Researchers or project team members at any stage of the data application (DAR) process (feasibility, initial, proposed, applied or approved)
  • Anyone affiliated with a research or public institution, including health authorities, (e.g BC Centre for Disease Control) and Public Service Agencies (e.g. BC Coroners Service)
  • Data Stewards and/or designated affiliates
  • Students enrolled in one of our Education and Training Unit courses

PLEASE NOTE: Access to Metadata Central is NOT AVAILABLE to users outside of Canada.

If you already have a PopData account but do not have Metadata Central access, please email: dataaccess@popdata.bc.ca In this email, please indicate your name, work position/title and the reason you would like access.

BC Data Scout™

A data query service providing cohort information in the form of highly aggregated, approximate results to researchers who are planning a study using Ministry of Health Data.

Researchers

Per Section 5 of the Research Data Access Framework (RDAF), “A researcher is: Either a student, teacher, or other individual enrolled, appointed or employed by any of the following:

  • A university, where the university status is defined under the BC University Act
  • A college, university college or provincial institute as defined under the Colleges and Institute Act R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 52
  • The Open Learning Agency as continued under the Open Learning Agency Act R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 34
  • Royal Roads University continued under the Royal Roads University Act R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 409
  • Another equivalent educational institution in another jurisdiction outside BC but within Canada”

Student Researchers

A student researcher of a Canadian University or equivalent institution per the University Act. Student Researchers MUST be affiliated with a Canadian academic principal investigator.

Members of a Research Team

A member of a research team that may be employed by or affiliated with a research or public institution including Health Authorities and Public Service Agencies. This category of user will have their account linked to the Principal Investigator of the project or program under which they are working. Members of a research team MUST be affiliated with a Canadian academic principal investigator.

Data Prospector BC

An inventory of the linkable data sets available to BC's researchers.

Anyone may access Data Prospector BC.

Select Data Prospector BC from the drop down menu under the Researcher Tools tab. You do not need an account or to log in to use the online inventory.

Instructions on how to use the SRE, and check machine availability and quotas.
